Gerard Miller's masterpiece

It`s mid-August and my duffle bag is completely packed and I have three more sessions scheduled at my range before I can declare myself fully "locked in." I`m headed to Tanzania later this month. Yes, Africa`s jewel keeps calling me back and this will be my third safari there.

I will be hunting in the southwest region of the country with Gerard Miller of Danny McCallum Safaris. A friend of mine, Chris Dorsey, first made me aware of Gerard after the two of them hunted together. Chris owns Orion Productions and produces the show, Dangerous Game, one of the finest hunting programs on television. I`m licensed to shoot just about everything Tanz has to offer, including both cats.

In the meantime, production continues on our next video, Delta Royale: Botswana`s Perfectly Shot Dangerous Game. My thanks to all of you who`ve inquired about its release date. DR will be ready by the end of the year.

Our book, The Royal Showdown, is also in the process of being published as of this writing. The book chronicles the 14-day safari I embarked on earlier this year with Andre Roux in Central African Republican. I came home with the number two Lord Derby Eland of all time. I guess that makes it the second largest antelope ever, right?

Earlier in August I received great news from SCI in Tucson. My application for two booths at the upcoming 2008 convention in Reno had been granted. For the first time, Sable Trail Productions will have its own booth space with full compliment of all our products available, DVD`s, VHS`s, shirts, hats, safari jackets and the book. Kappie will be in attendance. It will be the first time he has come to an SCI convention.

In Reno 2008, I will be also teaching a workshop. "Making Accurate Safari Shots." For the first time I will share my unique training regimen and shooting tips, so you too can make that one perfect shot. It`s different, and it works. My symposium will also educate and inform shooters what to do before you pull the trigger, before you get in position to take the shot. Many of you who`ve followed our videos know that I believe the anticipation and preparation you put in, while stalking and on final approach, are the keys.

Too many safari-goers start thinking when they put their gun on the shooting sticks and by then it`s too late. It`s a presentation I`ve formulated based on my own hunting experiences in Africa and with the help of interviews of more than 100 PH`s.

Many of you over the years have asked me about the possibility of us partnering together on a hunt and I`ve finally come up with a solution. My donation to SCI consists of just that. It`s a hunt to Namibia in 2009 that will be available on auction for a father and son (or daughter). The winning bidder will accompany my then 12-year-old son Ryan, and I, on a 10-day Namibia safari. Kappie will videotape the entire hunt and the footage will be compiled into a video release, Passing it On.

Kappie has also agreed to give the winning bidders a disc of all of the still photographs taken on safari. According to SCI, this is the first such auction donation of its kind, a father and child donated hunt. The package also includes two bolt action rifles made by John Rigby Gunmakers. It`s a matching set of custom made and fitted father and son (or daughter) rifles to be used on the safari in Namibia, calibers .375 and .300.

But that`s not all. My taxidermist, High Country Taxidermy in Wisconsin, has donated a shoulder mount of a dangerous and plainsgame animal, as part of the package. As you can see, this is a blockbuster donation. Let the bidding begin and the proceeds all go towards a wonderful cause!

My hat goes off to Hunters Namibia Safaris, the safari outfitter and donor who helped me put this all together. That safari company is a father and son operation in itself. The dad, PH Joof Lamprecht, is believed to have coined the phrase, "Take your child hunting and you won`t have to go hunting for your child."

Joof`s son, Jofie, has followed in his dad`s footsteps, and today, the father and son PH team of Joof and Jofie, comprise one of the finest hunting operations in all of Africa. Like many of the safari companies, it`s a family run business and the backbone of the operation is Joof`s wife and Jofie`s mom, Marina. Please be on the lookout for more information about this most unique auction package in upcoming SCI publications. And if you are interested in learning more about it please call the office here in Chicago at 312 226 4047.
