Jambo!

I`m one week away from my next safari. Rifle practice, practice, practice continues for me on the weekends. I`ve been firing hundreds of rounds from my Jarrett .375 and Rigby .470 NE. I know I`ll be locked in come safari time.

My next destination is Botswana, where I`ll be hunting with Johan Calitz. His specialty is elephants and that`s why I`ve chosen Johan. I`m a big tusker short of completing my big five. But there's more on tap than just a big elephant in Botswana. I was able to snare a cherished and much sought after lion permit for Johan's prized Okavango Delta concession. It will be hard to beat the great lion I got in Masailand but let's never underestimate the greatness of Botswana's lions.

How lucky am I to get this lion permit? Johan's annual lion quota for his Delta concession is only 1. And yours truly is holding that lone lion permit. It was just last year that outfitters were allowed to resume lion hunting in Botswana. It had been shut down for several years. The added thrill of hunting lion in Botswana is that they must be tracked and not baited. Could this be the making of "The Mane Event II" or "The Mane Event Rematch." We will see! I also have a cape buffalo on license, as well as a full contingent of Botswana plainsgame.

I`ve enjoyed meeting so many of you throughout convention season and my travels to various cities. I appreciate your support and I accept your criticism, yet I want to set the record straight on two issues. First, my 503- yard zebra shot: By no means am I advocating hunters to employ my style of hunting. If long shots aren`t your bag don`t try them. I`m just as comfortable now with my .300 Jarrett at 500 yards as I am at 200. That`s why I carry out such long shots.

Whether cross-country long range shooting is still considered "hunting," is for the critics to debate. But my record in the field stands unblemished. I have never maimed, wounded or lost an animal from a poorly-placed long distance shot. I don`t consider my 400 to 500-yard shots risky shots. I`m that confident with my rifle. I understand the ballistics. I can judge the wind properly. I know my gun and I understand animal anatomy.

In the meantime, if you haven`t already, treat yourself to The Mane Event: Tanzania`s Perfectly Shot Dangerous Game. It`s the fifth release in our Perfectly Shot series, and is already our best-seller. The DVD release contains several special features not available on VHS.

Finally, special thanks to you the hunters, for making Sable Trail Productions successful. We rely on your support, and I look forward to meeting many more of you this year. Your comments and criticism are appreciated. And I hope our videos continue to be educational, informative and entertaining, but before you imitate anyone else`s style make sure you`re skilled to do so only in the best interests with utmost respect for wildlife.

Cheers and Happy Hunting
