Hi Marc:
My son and I just returned from a hunt with Robin Hurt in Tanzania. Here's my favorite photo of our hunt.
Nello Cooper who hails from the great state of Alaska recently returned from a safari in Zim.
Hello Bwana Moja:
I hunted 10 days with ZimAfrica Safaris in Zimbabwe near Hwange. The hunt went really well. I also took my wife Kristy with me and she did some guinea fowl shooting. We're very happy to see that you will resume hunting this November. You do have a following here in Alaska.
Keep up the good word, and shoot straight. A couple of my photos are attached. Thanks sincerely,
Nello
Oscar Taylor recently returned from a plainsgame hunt in RSA. His summary is below.
Hi Marc,
I extend condolences for the loss of the Land Cruiser. I am also thankful Kappie was not injured in the hijacking ordeal. Both of my PH's have known him for many years. Ironically, I hunted at the same concession where you lion hunted in the Kalahari. Your signed postcard is prominently displayed at the bar.
Regrettably, I missed you by about 5 days. From what I understood your planned hunt ran into some issues in a neighboring country but you were able to hunt with Randy and found success. The four month lead-up to my plains game safari was fueled by your book and DVD's. I bowhunted the NW and NE provinces of RSA for a week each.
Seven trophy animals were taken with two possibly cracking "Top 10" in the world with archery equipment. I thought you may like these pics wearing your T-Shirt and one delivering the SCI Blue Bag to a rural primary school in Zululand! I am currently planning my next trip to RSA to begin the quest for the Big 5 with archery gear next July!
Best Regards, O.T. Oscar Taylor
Paul Smith from Florida returned from a Zimbabwe hunt with Chifuti Safaris in late September 2008. He filed this report and pictures.
Marc:
I just returned from my Chifuti hunt in Dande North. My PH was Dirk Mostert.
I took a tuskless on the first morning with the Krieghoff .470, a decent buffalo on day three with the Dakota .416 Rem, and also got the opportunity to help out with a PAC buffalo on day 12. He was about 100 years old I think. The PH made the first shot since we were in such thick cover and near the villages and I followed up with the double. It was great fun.
Both buffalo were tracked through the thick reeds and brush. I also finally got a bushbuck after eight days of walking up and down those hills and sand rivers. My head tracker, Waison, had 27 years with National Parks and he was simply amazing. The trackers and game scouts really worked hard for me. The first buffalo (the younger one) was tracked from a little village on the Mwanzamtanda River through those reeds.
The little guy wearing your hat showed us the tracks. We gave his family 20 pounds of meat and he seemed to like the hat. I asked Waison to tell him he should be a PH some day.
Anyway, thanks for all the good advice. On both the elephant and the buffalo, I took your advice and didn`t try play the angles for the off side; just shot for the near side shoulder and it worked out great.
Hope the family and businesses are doing great and see you in Reno.
Regards,
Paul
